Hello there, here are some shots from the June market.
The Long Gallery proved to be a great venue, with lots of light and space for our 30+ stalls.
Billy Whims and friends provided the music, and later in the day we showed the much anticipated "Handmade Nation".
Thanks so much to everyone who was involved.

Some new things from Tara Badcock PARIS + TASMANIA
I've been making shoulder bags with red kangaroo leather backs and bird embroidered fronts lately...so I'll have a couple for my ODD+EVEN stall, along with new purses that are Alice in Wonderland themed...I've been obsessively watching Jan Svankmajer's stop-animated film 'Alice', which is brilliant, and is inspiring me enormously!
I will get some more of these cushions made for next weekend, although they won't be the same size/shape (my cushion insert supplier seems not to be answering emails/phone calls, so I hope they get in touch soon?!).
Domestic Jacky Winter cushion, 2009 (silk and Tasmanian Merino wool with freehand machine embroidery, 50 x 60cm).
Majestic Teapot cushion, 2009 (silk and Tasmanian Merino wool with freehand machine embroidery, 50 x 60cm).
Oh, and I'm making some similar-looking tea cosies with the silk and wool too....
Have a lovely week everyone and see you all on Friday/Saturday!

Hello, we are Pip Emma: In the Afternoon
We are inspired by free afternoons, spontaneous tea parties, cake eating, the whiskers on kitties, melodic tunes, crushes on nice shoes, garden paths, transitory spying, your grandma's jewellery box, art deco green, fiery heroines, perfect letter press, forgotten postcards, secret histories, hidden love soon declared, wet stamps, blue stocking suffragettes, masked smugglers, red ballet shoes, the spit of punk rock, plenty of gin and tonic, rooms with open fires matched with open windows, being a little lost in fog, kissing in back alleys, handsome dada, things long forgotten found in the dark under houses and novels.
We make jewelery from laser cut wood, found things and vintage pictures.
We also gocco-print paper products.
You can find us at Cube Art + Design or by emailing dearpipemma@gmail.com and of course at the next Odd + Even!
See you there x
p.s. Currently we are having a week-long tea party in the window at Cube, come by and say hello

UGLIEST CUSHION COMPETITION- due 22nd June!
I just wanted to share this with everyone, as it's quite a fun idea and a lovely prize offered!
HAPPENING NOW:
Are ugly cushions hiding in your home? Cluttering up your sofa? Do you have the winner of the small acorns ugly cushion competition lurking in your midst? If so, offer it up for public vote (& ridicule) in our online ugly cushion competition, and you could win the chance to exchange your ugly cushion for beautiful new Designers Guild cushions, thanks to Designers Guild and Small Acorns.
We’ve been inspired by Design*Sponge’s annual Ugliest Pillow Contest which we have spent the past few years watching with amusement from afar. Unfortunately D*S’s contest is only open for American entries and we think it’s such a great idea that Small Acorns has decided to hold our own Southern Hemisphere version.
The person with the ugliest cushion in New Zealand, as decided by public vote, will win Designers Guild cushions of their choice to the value of $500.
Here is a rundown & the rules of the game:
1. This is an online competition. All cushions must be photographed and emailed to web@smallacorns.co.nz by MONDAY 22nd JUNE at 8am.
2. All photos must be attached in jpeg form (thats standard, straight from your camera photo file type). Please do not send website links or flickr links.
3. Please style your cushion for beautiful photography, extra credit will be given for nice photos of ugly cushions!
4. Write ‘ugliest cushion competition’ in the subject line of your email.
5. We will narrow entries down to a final 10. Once the top 10 (or ugliest 10) are decided, we will publish them online at www.smallacorns.co.nz, and the winners will be decided by public vote.
6. Entry is open to New Zealand and Australian residents.
7. 1st place will win Designers Guild cushions to the value of $500 to replace their award-winning ugly cushion. 2nd & 3rd place will each win one new Designers Guild cushion of their choice to the value of $150. Please note – the winners will need to surrender their ugly cushions to be able to claim their prize.
Too afraid to enter? Don’t be! Our aim is not to trash – simply to celebrate the worn, over-loved, dog-chewed, moved-on-from puffless pillows of your past! And all entries will be posted on a first name basis only. You have nothing to fear and a life of gorgeous cushions to gain!
Thanks to Designers Guild for donating the new cushions!
The 10 ugliest cushions, as decided by the Small Acorns team, will go to public vote on the Small Acorns website between June 24th and July 1st with the winners announced on Thursday 2nd July, 2009.

It breaks the ice at parties....nudge, nudge...
Hello! Its Tara Badcock here, posting the first stall-holder post (gulp!)
I'll keep it simple as I'm still working on all the pieces for ODD+EVEN and I'm always happily suprised and delighted when I make something I didn't expect to make...so there will be more images next week from me.
This week's feature pics are two purses I made for the NICHE Market in Launceston (sorry...plugging another market here!). The second image is a purse that has a silk velvet front with hand embroidered flaming heart, and a red kangaroo leather back, with silk braid strap, Aunty Cookie printed linen lining and zip fastening. The second purse is made from Furnishing fabric off-cuts of silk velvet, with silk satin and freehand machine embroidery of my favourite teapot! The back is kangaroo leather and similar finishing to the first purse mentioned.
I may still have the silk velvet heart purse for ODD+EVEN, or variations on the theme.
I'm looking forward to O+E, and begin able to spread out a bit more in the luminous spaciousness of the Long Gallery! See you all there?!
